Privacy Policy
FocusConductor — Last updated: April 22, 2026
1. Who we are
FocusConductor is a macOS menu bar application that automates app launching and quitting based on your macOS Focus modes. It is developed and maintained independently. For any privacy inquiries, contact us at privacy@focusconductor.app.
2. Data we collect
2.1 Anonymous analytics PostHog
FocusConductor uses PostHog (self-hosted in the EU) to collect anonymous product analytics. This helps us understand how the app is used and prioritize improvements.
Events collected include:
- App launch
- Focus mode changed (mode name only, no content)
- Automation toggled on/off
- Preferences window opened
- Onboarding completed
Each event is associated with a random, anonymous device identifier generated at first launch. This identifier is not tied to your Apple ID, name, email, or any other personal information.
2.2 Crash reports Sentry
If crash reporting is enabled in a future version, FocusConductor may send crash logs to Sentry. Crash reports contain stack traces and device metadata (OS version, app version, device model). No personal files, clipboard content, or Focus mode configuration details are included. This feature is currently disabled.
2.3 Subscriptions (Mac App Store)
FocusConductor is distributed and sold exclusively through the Mac App Store. Purchases, subscriptions, and auto-renewals are handled by Apple. FocusConductor itself never receives or stores your name, email, payment information, or Apple ID.
Subscription entitlement is verified locally on your Mac using Apple's StoreKit
framework and cryptographically signed Transaction receipts. No license
key or machine identifier is sent to any server we operate. Apple may share limited
information with us (such as anonymised install and subscription metrics) in
accordance with the
Apple Privacy Policy.
3. Data we do NOT collect
- The names or contents of your Focus modes beyond the mode name for analytics
- The list of apps you configure in FocusConductor
- Any file content, clipboard data, or screen content
- Your Apple ID or iCloud account details
- Your location
4. Data storage and retention
All app configuration (Focus mode rules, app assignments) is stored locally on your
Mac in ~/Library/Application Support/FocusConductor/ and is never uploaded
to any server.
Anonymous analytics events are retained by PostHog for 12 months, after which they are automatically deleted.
5. Third-party services
- PostHog (analytics) — Privacy Policy
- Apple / Mac App Store (distribution, subscriptions & billing) — Privacy Policy
- Apple iCloud / CloudKit (remote feature flags) — Apple Privacy Policy
6. Your rights (GDPR & CCPA)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or California, you have the right to:
- Access the anonymous data associated with your device identifier
- Request deletion of your analytics data
- Opt out of analytics collection at any time
To opt out, open FocusConductor → Settings and disable Send anonymous analytics. To request data deletion, email privacy@focusconductor.app with your device identifier (visible in Settings → About).
We do not sell personal data. FocusConductor is not directed at children under 13.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of FocusConductor after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
